What is Network Modernization?
Network Modernization, or Net Mod for short, is a suite of services that allow network operators and carriers to transition their legacy networks to any type of new technology. From an efficiency and effectiveness standpoint, it looks across all the different pieces of equipment to target the oldest, the least efficient, and then pull it out of the network so you can replace it with something more efficient. The reason why it’s really important is that equipment is aging. A lot of legacy equipment is being discontinued or it’s hard to find and it consumes a lot of power. As new technologies emerge, new services need to emerge. By transitioning your network with Network Modernization, you are set up to drive new revenue while serving your customers with more efficient and cost-effective means.
What is Fujitsu’s approach to Network Modernization?
Fujitsu uses a phased approach with Network Modernization. We have a very structured approach that is tried-and-true with a discovery phase and analysis phase. Then we have a planning and engineering phase followed by the migration of the traffic off of the equipment, if that’s necessary. Finally, we have a close out phase. During every phase, Fujitsu uses purpose-built software tools, which use Artificial Intelligence (AI), that allow us to migrate legacy equipment with the certainty circuits in traffic without causing outages on the customer’s network. In 12 years of performing Network Modernizations, we’ve never caused an outage during the process.
What challenges can Network Modernization help with?
Network Modernization takes out old equipment. It identifies old equipment that should be shut down. If there are any circuits or any traffic on that equipment, we can move it. A lot of states are creating legislation to target high energy use. Network Modernization gets old equipment out of the network, so you can avoid penalties. New York has a penalty, Local Law (LL) 97, which goes after certain size structures. If the power is not below a certain level and you don’t reduce it over time, you’ll get a fine. If you are concerned about local, state, or federal legislation on power usage, we recommend Network Modernization.
What are the key benefits of Fujitsu’s Network Modernization solution?
The key benefits of the Fujitsu Network Modernization solution are four-fold. One, it’s the amount of time we’ve been doing this. We’ve got almost 20 years of experience in Network Modernization. The second benefit is our people. We have very experienced people that have done Network Modernization for a long time. You might have old equipment that someone straight out of school wouldn’t know how to work with it. Third is our methodology that we’ve developed over the years. And lastly, what pulls our solution together is our purpose-built AI tools. While we use engineers to develop tools and design the circuits, the AI tools help them look at the data and make smart decisions based on experience. Those four pieces are really what make Fujitsu’s Network Modernization solution very unique in the market.
Fujitsu’s Network Modernization services can be very helpful for businesses who want to improve the security and efficiency of their network while reducing power consumption. To learn more about Network Modernization, watch our new video series.
